Reflexive Verbs
Definition: a Reflexive Verb is any verb in Spanish that has an "-se" attached to the end of the verb.

*examples: banarse, lavarse, vestirse, irse

(Note: many Reflexive Verbs are Stem Changers!!)



Reflexive Pronouns

(Reflexive Pronouns must match-up with their Subject Pronouns)

yo = me (myself)

tú = te (yourself-informal)

él = se (himself)

ella = se (herself)

Ud. = se (yourself-formal)

Nosotros = nos (ourselves)

ellos = se (themselves- masculine)

ellas = se (themselves- feminine)

Uds.= se (yourselves)






How to conjugate a Reflexive Verb:

(Placement: Reflexive Pronouns go before the 1st conjugated verb or attached to the 2nd verb in a 2 verb set-up.)

(yo) Bañarse

1. Drop "se". (bañar)

2. Match the Reflexive Pronoun with the subject and place infront of verb. ( Yo me bañar)

3. Drop the "ar". (yo me bañ_)

4. Identify if verb is AR/ER/IR and select correct ending to add to end of verb. ( Yo me Baño)

*This formation works for all Reflexive Verbs. Please be aware that some verbs may require another change, ie.- stemchanging verbs.

*Note: with Body Parts you cannot use Possessive Adjectives!! You have to use the Definite Article (el-la-los-las)


Ejemplo: I wash my face. = Yo me lavo la cara.
